Natural pools in Punta Mujeres closed due to sewage spill

The two natural pools of Punta Mujeres have been closed to the public this Monday due to a leak of sewage. This was reported by the Security and Emergency Consortium and the Haría City Council this noon.

Specifically, the affected area is between the natural pool known as El Cura and the El Pichón pool.

The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, and the Councilor for Health, Marcos Lemes, have visited the area and verified the state of the coastline and the discharge of said sewage.

As Villalba points out, "the bathing ban will remain active until normality is restored in this area of the coast and the competent authorities analyze the state of the water and close the discharge to guarantee the safety of bathers."

The spill, which is the responsibility of the company that manages the water in Lanzarote to resolve, has forced the fencing and signaling of the access areas to the natural pools, as well as prohibiting bathing.

For its part, the Haría City Council has already forwarded the notice to the Security and Emergency Consortium of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, to the Seprona, to the company Canal Gestión and to the Water Consortium of Lanzarote, so that they investigate the origin of this sewage spill and proceed to the immediate repair of the damage.

As La Voz has learned through several videos, the intertidal zone of the Punta Mujeres coastline has dawned with puddles of sewage.

The Ministry of Health has also been notified to carry out the "necessary measurements" and confirm the state of the water.
