The mayoress of Haría, Chaxiraxi Niz, has accused the General Directorate of Coasts of "imposing" a demarcation on the municipality that “blocks the progress of coastal towns”. In this sense, she has announced that in the extraordinary Plenary session that the City Council will hold this Friday, the government group will propose to file an administrative appeal against Coasts and its decision to reject, due to administrative silence, the City Council's request to annul the resolution by which it was decided to extend the width of the easement.
The mayoress recalls that on May 29, 2020, the City Council plenary session unanimously agreed to urge the review of administrative acts in order to declare the nullity of the resolutions adopted in April 2015 and September 2019 by the General Directorate of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea to extend the protection distance or easement zone of the coast from 20 to 100 meters.
Given the rejection of this request due to administrative silence, the Haría City Council wants to file an appeal "in order to continue undertaking the necessary actions to defend municipal interests."
“The new easement width harms the development of the towns of Órzola, Punta Mujeres, Arrieta and Charco del Palo, and threatens their progress, insofar as any project that is to be carried out at a distance of less than 100 meters requires new permits from Coasts, which is an impediment for Haría and a significant setback in the progress of coastal towns,” laments the councilor.
In the same vein, the councilor of the Technical Office and Planning and Projects, Víctor Robayna, highlights the importance of this Plenary session to "fight for the interests of the municipality and ensure the benefit and rights of citizens to freely enjoy the northern coast and that the City Council is able to satisfy their needs and requests in the most autonomous and agile way possible."
