The Directorate General of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has authorized the company Unión Eléctrica de Canarias Generación, S.A.U. (UECG) the project of works to improve the gas turbine of the Lanzarote power plant, located in Punta Grande, in Arrecife. This was published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).

The objective of the project is to increase the useful life to "guarantee the reliable long-term operation of the generating unit, through the substitution and renovation of the internal equipment of the gas turbine".

This gas turbine has a net power of 19.60 MW, but the actions do not involve an increase in the electrical or thermal power of the plant and, furthermore, maintain the use of the same fuel.

The actions to be carried out will be the substitution of the gas turbine rotor, the casings, and the control system. Thus, it also includes an adaptation of the high-voltage synchronization to 66 kV.

On the other hand, the document establishes a maximum period of 12 months from notification to request commissioning.

Furthermore, it is specified that this project does not require an Environmental Impact Assessment as it is considered a modification that does not significantly alter emissions or operational impacts.

Likewise, by being declared of general interest and having the conformity of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, urban planning licenses or municipal or insular control acts are not necessary.
