The Arrecife Courts host this Thursday the first trial of the "Unión" case, which has aroused great expectation. Many media outlets have moved to the area to cover this trial, in which there are six defendants.
The six defendants, Dimas Martín, Francisco Rodríguez Batllori, Plácida Guerra, Rafael Elorrieta, José Miguel Rodríguez and Luisa Blanco, have been accessing the Palace of Justice since early morning. The last to arrive were the former CEO of Inalsa, Plácida Guerra, and the former councilor of the Arrecife City Council, José Miguel Rodríguez.
All of them will have to testify before the court throughout this Thursday and also on Friday. The six defendants are accused of various crimes of fraud, in conjunction with embezzlement and prevarication, for having participated in the payment of invoices for allegedly unperformed work both from the Arrecife City Council and from Inalsa.
In addition, Batllori is also accused of document forgery, for which the Prosecutor's Office is asking for the highest penalty for him, that is, eight years in prison. Prosecutor Javier Ródenas is requesting a total of six years in prison for Dimas Martín, while for Plácida Guerra and Rafael Elorrieta he is asking for five years in prison.
For Luisa Blanco, the Prosecutor's Office is also asking for five years in prison, while for Rodríguez it reduces this request for a sentence to one year in prison, considering as a mitigating factor his confession, his collaboration with the investigation and the fact that he has already returned the money that he allegedly contributed to embezzling in this case.
