The Deputy Minister of Ecological Transition and Fight against Climate Change of the Canary Islands Government, Julieta Schallenberg, publicly responded this Wednesday to the order sent by the Cabildo of Lanzarote to the regional Executive regarding the declaration of renewable acceleration zones on the island.

It should be recalled that the Minister of Territorial Policy of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jesús Machín (Coalición Canaria), has publicly insisted that the maps published by Ecological Transition do not correspond to those agreed upon and that they constituted "a colossal error". However, the Minister of Transition, Mariano H. Zapata, attributed the error "to a little map".

"The protocol was signed with the Cabildo in July of last year and always based on the consensus of both parties," Schallenberg insisted in a new chapter of the controversy between the Canary Islands Government and the Cabildo of Lanzarote. "It was always agreed with the Cabildo, the areas are completely agreed upon," he emphasizedEcological Transition has thus insisted that "a material error occurred in the maps that were signed, not in those that were exchanged, but in those that were signed in the protocol."The deputy minister stated that this technical error is "totally rectifiable" and involves "changing those maps," but that it "does not change the substance of the matter at all."Schallenberg has thus argued that in the agreed-upon areas, "a priori, there are no barriers to the implementation of renewables." At the same time, he added that they have been determined based on technical criteria.
