With unanimous acclaim and in an atmosphere full of hope, the Assembly of the Canarian Coalition (CC) in Arrecife proclaimed Echedey Eugenio as the new local secretary this Tuesday. The event, held at the Civic Center of the capital, marks a decisive step in the process of renewing the local committees of CC in Lanzarote and the youth organization, placing Arrecife at the epicenter of the Canarian nationalist project.
Echedey Eugenio took on the challenge with a forceful message: "Arrecife has enormous potential and we are going to prove it." With these words, he opened a new stage that, he stressed, will be marked by humility, close management and the conviction that the capital "has a lot to contribute, not only to the island, but to the Canary Islands as a whole."
The Assembly began with the presentation of the management report by the outgoing local secretary, Jacobo Lemes, and the secretary of Organization, Abigail González, who highlighted the challenges overcome since 2021. Under adverse circumstances derived from the pandemic, the internal structure of the Committee was consolidated, managing to adapt the organization and its activities to a changing environment, and guaranteeing the active participation of the membership in each relevant decision.
They pointed out that the work focused on reinforcing democratic practices such as periodic meetings before municipal plenaries, the direct involvement of the grassroots and the constant connection with citizens. In addition, they recalled the decisive role of the Canarian Coalition in the City Council after the 2023 municipal elections and the benefits, challenges and lessons learned from participating in the municipal government group.
During his speech, Eugenio had words of recognition for both, assuring that their work has left "a solid foundation on which we will continue building" and that "the best way to honor that work is to give it continuity with tangible results for the residents of Arrecife."
The new local secretary defended the role of the capital within the structure of CC and recalled that from this Committee come references such as Pedro San Ginés, David Toledo, Maciot Cabrera and Abigail González herself, "an example of the talent and leadership that Arrecife contributes to the entire party."
29 executive secretariats
Along with Eugenio, the new Board of Directors of the Local Committee includes five people who assume essential functions in the organization: Rosmen Quevedo (Secretary of Organization), Elisabeth Socas (Deputy Secretary of Organization), Orlando Umpiérrez (Deputy Secretary General of Strategy), Nuria Jurado (Deputy Secretary General of Coordination) and Maite Corujo (Deputy Secretary General of Communication). A management team that reinforces the party's capabilities in the island's capital.
In addition, as part of this renewal process, Echedey Eugenio was detailing the way of working and the objectives, naming one by one the heads of the 29 executive secretariats that are part of the team he leads, highlighting the specialization of each responsibility, and showing his intention to make a joint and transparent management from day one.
With a clear vision of the future, Eugenio proposed a roadmap that includes "looking at the sea as a real opportunity to generate employment, attract investment and position Arrecife as a benchmark." A strategy that, he said, should translate into concrete projects, attracting funds and actions that reactivate neighborhoods and boost the local economy.
Support from nationalist leaders
The proclamation of Echedey Eugenio was attended and supported by the main nationalist leaders. The national secretary of CC and president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, spoke; the island secretary, Pedro San Ginés; the national secretary of Organization, David Toledo; the general secretary of the Nationalist Youth, Maciot Cabrera; and the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, who agreed to highlight the work carried out by the outgoing executive and showed their conviction of the political success of Echedey Eugenio at the head of the CC Committee in Arrecife.
Thus, Fernando Clavijo underlined the "enthusiasm and drive" of the new local secretary, of whom he also highlighted his "leadership", based, as he expressed, "on your ability to get the best out of the people around you." Qualities that he considered decisive for Echedey Eugenio to contribute as local secretary of CC to "Arrecife being the engine of the nationalist project in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands."
Pedro San Ginés praised the "infinite capacity for work and well-understood political ambition, as an end to transform people's lives for the better" of Echedey Eugenio, of whom he also underlined his "peculiar capacity for team leadership, very difficult to achieve and which is precisely what Arrecife needs to face its challenges; what is needed to transform this city."
David Toledo highlighted both "the magnificent team you have surrounded yourself with" and "the magnificent opportunity that is presented to you" to consolidate Arrecife as the third capital of the Archipelago, at the head of a Local Committee whose responsibility -he pointed out- transfers the borders of the 17 neighborhoods that make up the municipality to extend to the entire Canary Islands.
Maciot Cabrera praised "the values of honesty, closeness, respect and nobility, which Echedey Eugenio represents", of whom he highlighted "having surrounded himself with a team of committed men and women who will assume their responsibility with enthusiasm and determination."
Oswaldo Betancort considered that the new Local Committee of Arrecife, with Echedey Eugenio at the head, constitutes "the best team" to underpin "a solid project that prioritizes investment in the neighborhoods, education, youth and a General Plan of Arrecife that serves as an umbrella to promote commerce and economic activity, as we are doing from the Cabildo."
Also present at the event were the deputy island secretary of CC, Samuel Martín; the island secretary of Organization, Olivia Duque; the deputy secretary of Organization, Abigail González; the deputy secretary of Territorial Action, Municipal and Organizational Coordination and secretary of Organization of the Nationalist Youth, Aroa Revelo; the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín; as well as local secretaries and representatives of the directorates of the different committees of the island, who wanted to show their support for the new team and the renewal process underway.
Closing of the event
Echedey Eugenio closed the event appealing to the membership and the citizens of the capital: "I ask for your trust to transform Arrecife into a more prosperous, more livable and more proud of its sea city. We will do it together, adding experience with new energies, transparency with efficiency, enthusiasm with responsibility."
With this message, the Canarian Coalition in Arrecife opens a new stage where, as Eugenio pointed out, "no one is left over." Thus, the renewal joins the recognition of the work done, projecting a stronger and more prepared organization to continue defending the interests of the city and the Canary Islands.
