Drago Canarias has decided this Saturday to run alone in the general elections on November 29, and will do so with its leader, Alberto Rodríguez, heading the electoral list for Santa Cruz de Tenerife and with its Organization and Confederality manager, Héctor Morán, leading the slate in Las Palmas.

This was announced after the meeting of its highest governing body, the National Secretariat, held in Fuerteventura, where they made the decision not to run with any other formation in this election.

According to a statement, the decision is made based on the belief that a Drago Canarias ballot in this election "will generate hope in the citizenry and will contribute to halting the growth of the far-right," because it will give many people dissatisfied with "state left-wing options based in Madrid or those who, while calling themselves nationalists, bow to them" the option to vote for them.

Likewise, they have criticized the decision of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to advance the general elections, scheduled for the summer of next year, because they consider it "opportunistic."

The party has defined itself as "the only reliable alternative" in addressing issues that, in their opinion, concern the Canary Islands population, such as the need for a decrease in tourism, sovereignty over territorial waters, limiting housing purchases for speculative purposes, or promoting economic diversification, among others.

"Drago Canarias has been carrying out arduous work of activism, awareness-raising, and structuring in all territories of the Archipelago through its different territorial units and spokespersons in order to listen to the associative fabric, learn firsthand about the problems, and offer proposals for change," the statement reads.

The party's National Secretariat has also decided that Alberto Rodríguez will be the head of the list for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, while Héctor Morán will be the head of the list in the province of Las Palmas.

Regarding Rodríguez, currently a councilor for Drago in the City Council of San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife) and who was previously a deputy in Congress with Podemos for several legislatures, they have highlighted his parliamentary experience and also that he was "a victim of 'lawfare' agreed upon by Spanish right-wing and left-wing forces."

For their part, from Morán they have pointed out that he has "extensive technical and political experience" both in the Congress of Deputies and in the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.
