The Family Respite Center of San Bartolomé has obtained an average rating of 9.43 points out of ten from families and users, according to the results of the satisfaction surveys conducted on the operation and care provided by this municipal resource.
The results reflect a high degree of satisfaction with the different aspects analyzed. The average rating reaches 3.77 points out of 4, equivalent to 9.43 out of 10, even exceeding the expected annual value, set at 9.38.
This data supports the consolidation of one of the major social commitments of the current government team of the San Bartolomé City Council, developing a sustainable social care system with its own funds, whose objective is to guarantee company, attention, and professional care to the beneficiaries and, at the same time, provide their families and caregivers with time to maintain their personal, work, and social activities.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, emphasizes that "this outstanding rating given by families and beneficiaries to the Family Respite Center is a very significant piece of data, because they are the ones who know this resource, use its services, and know how their loved ones are cared for daily."
An initiative that started in 2024
This initiative, which opened its doors on March 1, 2024, has already completed two years since its opening. Its coordination depends on the Elderly area, coordinated by Carmen Medina, and the management is carried out through the Association of Relatives of Patients with Alzheimer's and Other Dementias of Lanzarote (AFA Lanzarote), through a team of professionals and specialists that guarantees comprehensive and specific care for each resident.
The Family Respite Center is aimed at people with functional limitations, cognitive impairment, reduced mobility, or who depend partially on third parties for their daily lives, and since its opening, a total of 63 people have been attended to, a figure that reveals the great need in this aspect that the San Bartolomé City Council has covered with its most vulnerable population.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, recalls that from the City Council and in a transversal manner, different actions and projects have been developed to improve the quality of life of groups like this one that require a “real, conscious and firm commitment to dignify not only the attention to the elderly, but also to promote active aging and, in parallel, provide a necessary respite for caregivers that helps them balance their work, personal, and family life”.
The surveys also include comments of gratitude towards the staff and the service provided. Families highlight the quality of care received, the adaptation to personal needs, and the work carried out by the professional team, reinforcing results that place the degree of satisfaction at outstanding levels.
A municipal resource that is a benchmark in Lanzarote
The Family Respite Center opened its doors to respond, from the local administration, to the needs for attention, care, and conciliation of families in the municipality.
Since then, the center has become a benchmark on the island of Lanzarote, as it is a resource launched by a local administration with the aim of directly addressing a social need and improving the quality of life of residents. It is one of the fundamental pillars of the social policies of the San Bartolomé City Council, a center that has just turned two years old and is financed entirely with its own funds, around 400,000 euros.

The high valuation that families have given to the Family Respite Center also responds to the trust generated by the professional team of AFA Lanzarote and the care it provides daily to users.
