The Cabildo of Lanzarote has presented thirteen new buses acquired by the concessionaire company of the regular passenger transport service, Arrecife Bus S.L., which will reinforce the intercity transport network on the island with the implementation of three new lines, the improvement of schedules and the increase of weekly trips in high demand areas, especially in the south of the island.

“The incorporation of these buses allows us to continue advancing in our commitment to a more sustainable, accessible and efficient mobility for all the people who live and visit the island”, said the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, during the act. “We continue taking firm steps, even in a context marked by the ongoing tender of the service, because we understand that the needs of our citizens cannot wait”, he added.

Three new strategic lines

Among the main novelties in the regular transport service that will come into operation on May 1, are the creation of three new strategic lines, the 22D (Airport ↔ Arrecife Interchange) with 290 weekly expeditions; the 162D (Arrecife ↔ Airport ↔ Playa Blanca) with 112 departures; and the 7D (Arrecife ↔ Máguez) with 28 weekly expeditions that improve the connection with the north without passing through Teguise.

The Minister of Transport, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, highlighted that “the new buses make possible the creation of these three new strategic lines as well as the increase in frequency on the main routes that connect Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Playa Honda, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. This improvement will mean an increase of 582 weekly expeditions, which translates into a more efficient service adapted to the tourist and labor activity of the island, which does not stop on weekends or holidays”.

For her part, the operations director of Arrecife Bus, María Cabrera, pointed out that “thanks to the investment of more than 4 million euros, we not only reinforce the island's intercity transport service but also make it more efficient and more committed to our environment”.

In this sense, it should be noted that the new vehicles are low-emission hybrid units equipped with the latest technology in safety and accessibility, including driving assistance systems (ADAS), reversing cameras, breathalyzer for the driver, protection screen and fleet management platforms. In addition, they have the HTC system from Hanover, with sound and signaling adapted to people with special needs.
