The spokesman for the municipal group of Coalición Canaria in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, denounces the "lamentable state of dirtiness and abandonment in which the surroundings of La Tiñosa has been left after the weekend", and demands from the government group "the immediate implementation of a shock cleaning plan that restores dignity to one of the most emblematic spaces in the municipality".
The nationalist councilor points out that, "while the City Council boasts on social networks of having cleaned the fairgrounds "thoroughly", the surrounding streets reek of urine, are full of vomit since Friday, remains of bottle parties, overflowing bins, wipes, pads and tampons in visible corners as in the surroundings of the El Fondeadero Civic Center".
“It is evident that reality is not cleaned with propaganda or carefully chosen photos”, adds Vizcaíno and emphasizes that “it is a real shame that this situation is repeated year after year and that the mayor insists on hiding it under a layer of digital makeup. It is not enough to clean what is seen in the official photos, it is necessary to face once and for all the real problems suffered by residents, merchants and visitors”.
In addition, the nationalist leader demands that the company holding the cleaning service, FCC, comply with the contract. “It cannot be tolerated that after massive events such as those held this weekend, the accumulation of waste and the hygienic state of the streets is prolonged until Monday. What should have been resolved on Friday night is still pending days later”, he states.
To this panorama is added the presence of rats roaming freely, without any fear, even during the celebration of events such as the chalana race in El Poril, a situation that perfectly portrays the absolute neglect of the City Council in terms of health and pest control".
"But the hypocrisy of the government group does not stop there. While from their official channels they criticize the lack of recycling containers and the management of the Cabildo, they themselves have requested the removal of one of the most efficient selective collection points in the entire municipality, located on Frankfurt Street in Puerto del Carmen", he continues.
According to data from the Cabildo itself, 6.3% of the total glass containers in the municipality were collected at that point, with more than 160 tons per year, in addition to paper, cardboard and light packaging. A point that had daily collection or even several times a day and that, according to the party, "has been eliminated by exclusive decision of the City Council, alleging criteria of "citizen coexistence" without offering real alternatives".
Vizcaíno emphasizes that “you cannot demand more recycling while eliminating the most effective points for simple political calculation or convenience. That is called institutional cynicism”.
“Tías cannot continue to be governed by empty headlines and social networks. Real problems are not solved with filters, but with work, management and commitment”, asserts the CC spokesperson, demanding "respect for residents, the environment and tourism, which is the main economic source of the municipality".
