The spokesperson for Ciudadanos in the Canary Islands Parliament, Ricardo Fernández de la Puente, has addressed a written question to the Canary Islands Government, asking about “the administrative situation of the future Lanzarote Conference Centre, a key facility in the socio-economic development of the island”. In this regard, he recalled that “thanks to an amendment by Ciudadanos to the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community for the 2021 financial year, a budget allocation of 200,000 euros was enabled for the reactivation of this action”.
However, according to him, the response of the Canary Islands Government has been that it is awaiting the Cabildo of Lanzarote to initiate the procedures to articulate that subsidy, since it must submit the mandatory application, accompanied by the documentation required by the basic regulations on subsidies.
In this sense, the spokesperson for the liberal party, while expressing his surprise at the situation arising from the response received, has asked the Cabildo of Lanzarote to “clarify whether said documentation was submitted in a timely manner”, since “the deadline to do so expired on June 30 and, according to the Canary Islands Government in response to the question asked, on June 7 a second request was made to the island institution”, because “no documentation had been provided until then and to this day there is no reliable evidence that this has been the case”.
For Fernández de la Puente, “it is sad to see how administrations, due to negligence, incapacity or negligence, sometimes lose opportunities for the economic development of our land”, and he has assured that “this is a new demonstration of poor management of public resources”.
