The formation believes that "it is important to open a line of aid for sports clubs, as well as to implement measures such as enabling areas outside the premises" so that they can maintain their activity

Protest of gyms and sports centers in front of the Cabildo

Ciudadanos (Cs) has urged this Tuesday the Cabildo of Lanzarote and its president, María Dolores Corujo, to “take as soon as possible effective and coherent measures to support the island's sport, in order to give way to the unsustainable situation caused by the closure of sports centers and gyms”.

In a statement, the orange formation states that “these centers, in addition to the closure, are having a significant reduction in income due to the decrease in members and the investment made in protocols and security measures”.

“Let's not forget that it is also a sector on which many people depend economically”, they emphasize from Ciudadanos, from where they point out that this sector “suffers an increasingly unbearable suffocation due to the scarcity of aid and effective solutions to avoid the ruin of many of these businesses”.

Ciudadanos believes that “there are no reasons to justify continuing to harm a sector that has demonstrated at all times commitment and exemplary behavior in the measures required to alleviate this pandemic, with results that prove the almost zero percentage of infections registered in sports centers and gyms in Lanzarote”. Likewise, the formation highlights that "already at the national level, the Culture and Sports Commission of Congress approved on Thursday a Non-Law Proposal (PNL) from the Popular group for the declaration of physical activity and sport as an essential activity”,

Therefore, it believes that “it is important to open a line of aid for sports clubs, as well as to implement measures such as enabling areas outside the premises if they do not have outdoor facilities, as has been done with the terraces of hospitality”. All this "in order that at least they can continue to carry out their activities and do not have to close down in this atypical season”.

“If the corresponding measures are taken, sport is a safe activity that should continue to function, as it provides health benefits and a better quality of life both physically and mentally, especially in these times of pandemic and confinement”, conclude from Ciudadanos Lanzarote.
