Teguise has installed the first smart crosswalk in Lanzarote in Costa Teguise. This pioneering action has been promoted by the City Council, through the Department of Local Police and Traffic, directed by Ginés González Suárez; with the collaboration of the Department of Roads and Works, headed by Eugenio Robayna.
The mayor, Olivia Duque, emphasizes that this action is part of the municipality's modernization and sustainability strategy. "Teguise is moving towards a safer, more accessible and innovative city model," she says. She also thanks the coordinated work of the areas involved, betting on this type of initiatives that focus on the community.
“This smart step not only improves safety, but marks a before and after in the way we understand mobility in our urban centers. Our commitment is clear: to continue betting on technological solutions that protect people's lives,” says the Councilor for Local Police and Traffic, Ginés González Suárez.
For his part, the Councilor for Roads and Works, Eugenio Robayna, highlights the importance of this action. “This type of investment demonstrates that in Teguise we are working with responsibility and a vision for the future. This installation is only the beginning of a line of improvements that we will continue to implement in the different towns of the municipality,” he points out.
The new system, located in a high-traffic area of Costa Teguise, incorporates sensor technology and LED light signaling that is automatically activated when it detects the presence of pedestrians, significantly improving visibility and reducing the risk of run-overs, especially at night or in low visibility conditions.
The City Council is already working on evaluating other strategic points in the municipality where similar smart steps could be installed, with the aim of extending this technology to the rest of the territory.
