The PSOE's lead candidate for Congress in the province of Las Palmas, Dolores Corujo, stated this Wednesday that the resignation of Óscar Puente as Minister of Transport is a "painful and absolutely necessary decision" to which "we are not accustomed in our country".
In statements to journalists, before holding a meeting with the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Las Palmas, the also general secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and congresswoman valued the fact that a minister resigns with the "dignity" with which Puente has done so "after many tragedies that, unfortunately, have impacted our country greatly".
Furthermore, she emphasized the fact that he did so in his appearance before the Permanent Commission of Congress with "total frankness, clarity, and competence", after defending his management of the Urda (Toledo) train accident and the investment in railway infrastructure in recent years.
"It is a tragedy what we have experienced" and "we need the causes of this accident to be clarified as soon as possible," she stressed.
Likewise, she emphasized that Puente sends a message with his resignation that "not all politicians are the same and that, evidently, we must assume political responsibilities, even if we have not directly participated in this tragedy".
"It is a necessary gesture to dignify politics in general," she added.
And, above all, to respect the deep pain experienced by so many families who have lost their loved ones, she added.
