The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced the "attempt by the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, to deceive the citizens by presenting the approval of the Economic and Financial Plan by the Government of the Canary Islands as an achievement."
According to the general secretary of the PSOE and deputy in Congress, María Dolores Corujo, “the economic plan is not a medal, it is a sanction. It is the direct consequence of the financial disaster to which Oswaldo Betancort has led the Cabildo. The fact that he is now trying to turn this sanction into a sign of good management is, simply, a crude attempt to manipulate citizens.”
Corujo pointed out that the Economic and Financial Plan "is a legal obligation imposed for having violated the fiscal rules, not a voluntary decision or a sign of responsibility, as the president of the Cabildo has wanted to make it appear."
“The citizens of Lanzarote are perfectly aware of what is happening. This plan is not a recognition, it is a warning. And the serious thing is that, instead of assuming reality, Oswaldo Betancort intends to sell it as an institutional success. It is intolerable,” he added.
The PSOE warns that "this adjustment plan does not solve the problem, but is a direct consequence of a policy of waste and budgetary lack of control."
The PSOE concludes by demanding that the island's president "stop lying and assume the seriousness of the situation." “You cannot play with the collective intelligence of this island. Lanzarote is going through a financial crisis caused by terrible management, and the least that is expected of a president is that he tell the truth and assume his responsibility. Pretending to pin a medal on yourself for having caused this chaos is, simply, a disgrace,” they conclude.
