The Consorcio del Agua de Lanzarote culminates the execution of the works for the improvement of the drinking water and irrigation distribution network in the east zone between El Cuchillo and Soo.

The island institution has announced that it is a strategic action to "reinforce the domestic supply and irrigation" in this agricultural area linked to the jable and traditional crops such as sweet potato and watermelon in the municipalities of Teguise and Tinajo.

“Our Jable in 2026 is to be congratulated. We are delivering for the farmers and residents of these historic settlements, strengthening the drinking water network and guaranteeing more efficient and safer irrigation”, said the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and of the Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort.

The works are framed within the framework contract signed under the declaration of the water emergency and have funding from the Water Consortium within a global allocation of five million euros destined for priority interventions in supply and sanitation networks.

The Water Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, has stressed that “with these actions, the Water Consortium of Lanzarote reaffirms its commitment to the modernization of the integral water cycle, the support for the primary sector and the improvement of the quality of life in the rural centers of the island”.

Pending the chlorination test

The work, awarded for an amount of 352,857.30 euros and executed by the UTE Renovación Redes, is finished, pending only the chlorination test and the last health report for its commissioning in the month of March.

The project is developed between the intersection of the San Juan Evangelista and Hermanos Pinzones roads, following along the Lugar El Cuchillo road, and aims to provide improvement solutions both to the drinking water supply network and to the irrigation network intended for agricultural use.

Regarding supply, the action allows the interconnection of the Soo network with the projected pipeline in the western zone, facilitating its connection with the existing network in El Cuchillo. As for agricultural supply, the projected network is expanded within the framework of the modernization and improvement project for irrigation in the northeast zone of Lanzarote, through the installation of a pipeline parallel to the supply one to guarantee access to water in the entire affected agricultural area.

The intervention includes the installation of 2,230 meters of 110-millimeter diameter PVC pipe for drinking water and another 2,230 meters of 140-millimeter diameter PVC pipe for agricultural supply, which represents nearly five kilometers of new pipelines that structurally reinforce the hydraulic system in this jable area.
