Ciudadanos (Cs) has denounced this Tuesday "the poor condition of the canalization and the lack of maintenance of the Arrecife sewage system", a situation that "has become clear these days after the rains".
In this regard, the island coordinator of Cs, David Rodríguez, has stated that "it is not a new problem", since "every time it rains a little more than normal, the capital collapses", which leaves "regrettable images of overflowing sewers and flooded streets", to which we must add "the entry of water into homes and businesses".
In this sense, he stated that "on rainy days like yesterday, several areas of Arrecife became authentic swimming pools", a situation that, among other things, "made it very difficult to pick up children from schools in the capital", such as schools like Nuestra Señora de Los Volcanes (former Dominicas) or the Salinas school, where "the parents of the students encountered the collapse due to the flooded streets".
"Yesterday's rains once again highlight the lack of care in the rainwater network," Rodríguez stressed, who stated that his formation does not understand "how the mayor, Astrid Pérez, who is not new to politics and promised to solve the problems of the capital, has missed the detail that Arrecife needs to take action on rainwater and cleaning of drains".
For all this, the island coordinator of the orange formation has urged the municipal government to "clean the sewage system and condition the canalization of Arrecife". In this line, and "in order to carry out the appropriate improvement actions", Rodríguez has urged the mayor, Astrid Pérez, to "request the necessary economic resources from the Government of the Canary Islands", in order to "solve a problem that the capital and the residents have been suffering for more than 20 years".
