The Uga Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP), located in Yaiza, has experienced a "significant" improvement in its infrastructure thanks to a new pergola installed in the center's courtyard, Education has reported.

For the installation of this shade element, the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Equipment of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands assigned a minor works contract, valued at approximately "thirty-two thousand euros".

The execution of the project was carried out in a period of two months, with the aim of providing students with adequate protection against the intense solar radiation that affects Lanzarote in certain times of the year. This preventive measure "not only seeks to improve well-being at the school, but also to ensure a safer and more comfortable environment for its students", they pointed out.

In addition, the work was carried out by a local company, which contributes to the economy of the area and guarantees that the project is adapted to the specific needs and conditions of the island, in a context marked by climate change.

It should be remembered that Lanzarote is one of the islands with the highest radiation levels and episodes of high temperatures and haze in the archipelago, which translates into a greater need for roofs and shade, as well as more naturalized spaces.

In that sense, the general director of Infrastructure and Equipment, Iván González, highlights the "relevance" of this project for the educational community of Yaiza, as it is a "shade element that will not only protect our students from solar radiation and rain, but will also improve their educational experience by providing a comfortable and safe space for their breaks and outdoor activities."

The Ministry of Education, directed by Poli Suárez, continues working to "ensure that all schools in the Canary Islands have adequate facilities and resources for quality education in safe and pleasant environments", and this project at CEIP Uga, which demonstrates the commitment of the current government team to the continuous improvement of education in the archipelago, is just one more step in that direction.
