CCOO Lanzarote accuses the Canarian Government of "dismantling" the SEMAC on the island

The union assures that "workers are forced to go directly to the courts, with trials scheduled for the end of 2026, or worse, to waive their rights because they cannot afford the legal costs"

CCOO Lanzarote denounces the paralysis of the Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation Service (SEMAC) on the island by the Government of Canarias, an "unsustainable situation that violates the most basic labor rights of citizens".

The union recalls that "they have been warning for more than five months about the collapse in the SEMAC and the registration of union elections". Thus, they lament that "the blockade has been consolidated" and that, due to this, "workers in Lanzarote are forced to go directly to the courts, with trials scheduled for the end of 2026, or worse, to waive their rights because they cannot afford the legal costs".

CCOO Lanzarote assures that this service, essential and mandatory before going to court, "was barely offered on the island, one day a week, when the support of the file derived in the SEMAC allows for more days a week. Now, not even that. Promises of reinforcement by the administration (6 conciliators and 10 administrative staff since June 1) that have been shameless, since they have not complied".

The union considers that "there are no possible excuses because Lanzarote cannot continue to be treated as a second-rate island. This situation is not only unfair, it is discriminatory and could constitute a violation of fundamental rights".

Therefore, CCOO de Lanzarote demands "the immediate reactivation of the SEMAC in Lanzarote, the fulfillment of the promised reinforcement and stable and continuous planning of the service".
