The main organic and public positions of Coalición Canaria in Lanzarote met this Thursday night at the headquarters of the nationalist formation in Arrecife with affiliates and supporters, to kick off the campaign towards the European elections on June 9.
Elections to which the Canarian nationalists attend with "enthusiasm and determination, and "trusting" in their candidate, Carlos Alonso, to "guarantee that the demands" of Lanzarote, La Graciosa and the rest of the Archipelago, are heard in the European Parliament with a Canarian accent.
The traditional poster hanging was attended, among others, by the island secretary of CC, Migdalia Machín, the national and island organization secretaries, David Toledo and Eschedey Eugenio, respectively, and the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, who accompanies Alonso on the European list led by the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) and in which Coalición Canaria occupies number two.
This offers Canarian voters a "real opportunity to add their votes to ensure a deputy in Europe whose priority is the Canary Islands", as Betancort pointed out, who emphasized the "importance of voting for Coalición Canaria".
“Lanzarote faces present and future projects that need to have a European agenda that defends its singularities and challenges, that understands our particularities and our interests”, he said, and added that “our objective is to ensure the vote of all Canarians so that the Canary Islands have a leading role in the decisions that are made in Brussels”.
For her part, Migdalia Machín, encouraged "everyone to go to the polls" and, in the same line as Betancort, recalled that Coalición Canaria will "focus exclusively on the needs and priorities of the Canary Islands" and, therefore, of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
“The rest of the representatives of the Canary Islands who are in starting positions on the lists of the large state parties do not need the vote of the Canarians to be elected, because the drag of the state vote is enough for them”, she said.
The island secretary of CC Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, stressed the "importance of these elections for the future of the islands". “It is essential that we have a strong and clear voice in Europe, that defends our specific interests and needs. Carlos Alonso and Oswaldo Betancort are the ideal candidates for this task, and I am sure that they will represent the Canary Islands with dedication and commitment”, said Machín.
With an electoral program focused on addressing the migration problem, security, the agricultural sector, fishing, climate change and the special attention that the Canary Islands deserve as an outermost region, the nationalists face "vital elections" for the future of the Archipelago.
