The Coalición Canaria–Partido Nacionalista Canario (CC-PNC) group denounces "the imprudence and irresponsibility of the Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, David Duarte, for not suspending the celebration of the third phase of the Adult Murgas Contest of the Carnival this Wednesday, despite the pre-alert situation due to the storm on the island."
"We are all aware that the Fairground tent does not meet the conditions to hold this type of event and that, at this time, Arrecife does not have a better space for it; but it is totally unnecessary to endanger all the people who gather there with the aim of enjoying one of the main events of the Carnival", stressed the CC spokesperson in Arrecife, Samuel Martín.
Likewise, the councilor recalls that it would not have been the first time that a murga performance has been suspended due to bad weather. "You only have to ask the current Councilor for Infractions and Classified Activities, Manuel Hernández Noda, who during his time as president of the Murgas Federation, was one of those who insisted the most on canceling a gala due to bad weather conditions".
"A problem could have been generated with the electrical system"
Similarly, Martín apologizes to all the people who had to open their umbrellas inside the tent to continue enjoying the performances. "As a public representative, I feel obliged to do so. With the amount of water there was, a problem could have been generated with the electrical system", believes the nationalist spokesperson,
Martín also invites the Department of Celebrations "to use press releases to communicate and not to lie". "I remind the councilor that the capacity of the tent is not 3,000 people as has been stated in a note sent from his press office, but 1,692 between chairs and stands, according to what is authorized in the decree, so if it exceeds that number of people he would be committing, at the very least, an illegality, by playing with the safety of citizens", points out Samuel Martín
Continue with the Argana Pavilion file
Finally, the CC spokesperson invites the government group of the Arrecife City Council to continue once and for all with the Argana Pavilion file, since the sports facility, with an approximate capacity of 4,000 people, would also allow the celebration of events in which a large number of public gather, as is the case of the Carnival Murgas Contest. "But for the mayor neither sport nor the work of the groups that make up the carnival is important", he concludes.
