The spokesperson for the Canary Coalition group in the Yaiza City Council, Emilio Machín, has expressed his "outrage at the disinterest shown, once again, by the mayor, Óscar Noda, in the needs of the residents of the southern municipality."

“The latest idea is to limit the opening of the Playa Blanca municipal library to morning hours, which has been the case since June, harming high school students and other educational levels who require a space for study during the afternoon, especially during exam periods,” says the CC councilor.

Machín, who emphasizes that “it makes no sense for a municipal library, designed for the use and enjoyment of all residents, to close its doors at two in the afternoon, when many students are just leaving class,” states that his group will submit a motion to the next plenary session of the Corporation to reinforce the staff and extend the hours.

“The Christmas holidays are coming, and with them, many students from the municipality return to the island during these dates, and they need a space to study and prepare for their university exams,” says the councilor.

The nationalist spokesperson harshly criticizes the management of the mayor and his government group who, "instead of prioritizing resources in fundamental areas such as education, have chosen to ignore the true needs of students and families."

“If they are capable of reinforcing other departments, why not do the same with the municipal library? This lack of planning and organization demonstrates, once again, the disinterest in improving public services in Yaiza,” asserts Machín.

The Canary Coalition insists that the local administration should understand the importance of a study space in suitable conditions for young people.

“The decision not to enable afternoon hours in the library not only demonstrates a lack of foresight but also an alarming lack of commitment to the student community of Yaiza,” he emphasizes.
