The counselor in the Cabildo of Lanzarote of the Mixed Group, Óscar Noda, has regretted the rejection of the island government (CC and PP) of the initiative to create an investigation commission in the elderly residences of Lanzarote that not only clarifies the facts but also focuses on finding technical solutions that prevent cases like those known from happening again.
Óscar Noda argued in his turn to speak about the need to create this investigation commission in "pursuit of necessary transparency and clarity that guarantees compensation for the damage caused to victims." “It is a matter of social justice that our elders deserve, it is a matter of dignity to seek to compensate the victims and their families” added the councilor.
In the same vein, the counselor stated that, furthermore, “it is necessary to create this investigation commission to provide a response to what happened that be accompanied by solutions that could be incorporated into the statements of those called to participate in them, family members, associations for the elderly, technicians from the Cabildo de Lanzarote and professionals from the sector, and even jurists to help mechanize contractual defense responses".
The response of the Government of Oswaldo Betancort to Noda "responds to the need to hide what happened, not to give explanations and not to face up to the new information and relevant facts that are becoming known".
The councilor and mayor of Yaiza recalls that “to this refusal to create a political and technical tool that diagnoses what happened, analyzes the present, and projects future solutions is added what happened in last week's plenary session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, where the Councilor for Social Welfare Marci Acuña delegated his intervention to a technician from the area who has just been appointed to oversee those contracts with AMAVIR, thereby demonstrating that the councilor is hiding and does not want to face up to the explanations that the service users and their families expect".
For this reason, the counselor states that "he will not stop and will present all the necessary initiatives within his reach until the appropriate explanations are given and the corresponding responsibilities are assumed that serve to compensate for the damage caused to the elderly by the non-supervision of the contract with AMAVIR, and by the regrettable images shown in the media where behaviors that denigrated the users of the service, who in most cases are vulnerable people, are seen".
For Noda this is “a very serious lack of humanity, respect, and dignity against vulnerable people without precedent, which has a council accomplice who is none other than the Social Welfare Councilor who again washes his hands in the same week. Sincerely, I did not expect it from Marci Acuña".
