Caraballo denounces that the Canary Islands failed to execute 1,329 million euros from the budgets in 2024

The deputy for the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and island president of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC), Yoné Caraballo, wanted to express his indignation at the data that has been released by the Ministry of Finance, which indicates that the Canary Islands failed to execute up to 1,329 million euros in the 2024 financial year, which represents 10.5% of the final budget, "a figure never seen in the accounts of the Canary Islands", according to the Canaristas.

For the Canarista deputy, “this poor budgetary management occurs under the logic with which the government of the Canarian Coalition (CC) and Popular Party (PP) arrived, which was to budget to real spending. This doctrine imposed cuts in essential public services such as education, equality, culture or agriculture; and islands such as Lanzarote were mistreated, which fell for the first time in its history to fifth place in insularized investments.”

Caraballo recalls that while budgeting to “real spending” to avoid generating supposed budgetary “holes”, the society of Lanzarote was denied demands such as the Mental Health Subunit; the medicalized helicopter; the health centers of Argana Alta and Playa Honda; or the fuel bonus.

“Today we know that everything they sold about budgetary efficiency and relieving the pockets of the Canarians is absolutely false. The only ones whose pockets have been relieved are the rich by removing taxes from them; they have not touched the IGIC, their great electoral promise; and they have increased the positions of trust in the government by 300%”, comments the deputy, who sees “an ineffective government that excludes some islands in favor of others.”

According to NC-BC, “this inefficiency in public management is paid for by citizens who see their public services and benefits reduced. They cut budgets, damage public services and, on top of that, they don't spend what they budget. A real management disaster.”

With everything, Yoné Caraballo is waiting to see the execution data by islands, because everything indicates that the interests of Lanzarote and La Graciosa will also be “disastrous.”
