Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) has made this Monday a firm call for citizen mobilization to stop what it considers a political "plot" to dismantle the Insular Hospital, promoted by Coalición Canaria (CC) and the Partido Popular, under "a model of privatization of public health and social health services".
The NC-bc deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Yoné Caraballo, has warned that "we are not facing an innocent health reorganization, but rather a planned operation to empty the Insular Hospital, degrade its services and subsequently justify its closure or reconversion".
“The Insular Hospital has historically been a fundamental pillar of public healthcare in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, especially for the care of the elderly and chronic patients. What is happening is a political plot that uses the age of the building to justify its emptying and, subsequently, to be able to do business with the land,” Caraballo denounced.
Since the Canarist formation they have warned that this process responds to a model promoted by CC that bets on deriving public services to the private sector, using the vulnerability of the elderly as a political excuse. "The care of our elders is being instrumentalized to justify a change of model that benefits private interests and not the general interest," the deputy has pointed out
Caraballo has warned of the possible speculation of public land that would open up after the dismantling of the center. "There is a legitimate concern that, once the hospital is emptied, an attempt will be made to project a socio-health residence managed by private interests. We are talking about public heritage and a basic right like health," he added.
NC-bc has wanted to expressly thank the work of the healthcare and social healthcare professionals of the Insular Hospital, who "despite the difficulties, continue to sustain the service with exemplary commitment", as well as the families and citizen groups who are in struggle, defending public, dignified, and quality healthcare.
“Thanks to those who do not resign themselves. The defense of the Insular Hospital is a collective cause. If the citizenry mobilizes, this outrage can be stopped,” concluded Yoné Caraballo.
From NC-bc they have insisted that only through social mobilization, transparency, and democratic pressure can an operation be stopped that they consider "a direct attack on the public health system of Lanzarote and the dignity of the elderly".
