The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has asked the Spanish Government to implement extraordinary measures in the archipelago, which are permitted by law, if the state of alarm finally lapses on May 9.
This was reported in response to a question from the spokesperson of Nueva Canarias, Luis Campos, regarding the position of the Canary Islands Government in light of the announcement by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, regarding the end of the state of alarm.
Ángel Víctor Torres indicated that, among these extraordinary measures, controls in ports and airports must be mandatory, there must be mechanisms to control the gathering of groups, both in public and private spaces, as well as the need to have a negative PCR test or antigen test to travel between islands.
For his part, Luis Campos considered it a mistake to lift the state of alarm because "we are 90 days away from achieving collective immunity in the Canary Islands, after a very difficult process in which we have renounced parts of individual and collective freedom."
