The Teguise City Council has closed the beach of Caleta de Caballo to bathing this Monday after the latest water analyses carried out by Public Health, which have revealed the existence of fecal contamination. This was confirmed to La Voz by the Councilor for Beaches of the Consistory, Rita Hernández.
For the moment, it is unknown what type of bacteria has been detected in the water, but from the council they have confirmed that it is fecal contamination, although the City Council has not yet ascertained its origin.
The water samples were taken this same Monday, so, after knowing the results, the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has recommended the closure of the beach.
This Tuesday Public Health will take water samples again to analyze them and check if the water quality is suitable for bathing or not.
The situation is that the coastal town is immersed in its patron saint festivities of La Lapa, whose maritime procession will take place this Sunday, September 6. We will have to wait for the results of the analyses to know if the event can be carried out normally or not.
