The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, held a meeting with the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, to learn about the status of various projects of strategic interest for the island.

Among the topics discussed were the construction of housing in Montaña Roja, the promotion of Officially Protected Housing (VPO) in the same area, the arrival of cruise ships to Playa Blanca and the duplication of the road that connects Yaiza with Playa Blanca, as well as other key projects for the development of infrastructure on the island.

Oswaldo Betancort highlighted the importance of these projects for the sustainable development of Lanzarote: “We have insisted on the need to expedite these projects, which are essential to improve the quality of life of our citizens and mobility on the island. Collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands is key to ensuring that Lanzarote has adequate infrastructure and an accessible housing offer.”

Likewise, the president thanked Minister Pablo Rodríguez for his willingness and the commitment of the Canary Islands Executive to respond to the needs of Lanzarote in terms of infrastructure and mobility, and the boost required by some projects that are already in an advanced stage and others that require meticulous planning to guarantee their viability.

Key projects for the island

For the Cabildo of Lanzarote, there are several actions of maximum priority in terms of roads, such as the LZ-40 Aeropuerto-Puerto del Carmen road, in the section that goes from the entrance of the company Indelasa to the El Toro Restaurant, which is presumably will be put out to tender this 2025; as well as the doubling of the LZ-2 in its section between Yaiza and Playa Blanca, and the assessment of alternatives to the LZ-5 (from the Dr. José Molina Orosa General Hospital to the César Manrique airport), with the Cabildo's proposal for burial.

Regarding the duplication of the LZ-2 from Yaiza to Playa Blanca, the Minister of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, has highlighted that the Department of Road Infrastructure continues to study the most viable way to improve mobility and provide an alternative to the volume of traffic in the southern area.

On the other hand, add that the president has highlighted the importance of working together with Puertos Canarios to facilitate the work of fishermen in all the ports of the island that are under the ownership of the entity, in order to speed up the procedures for the fishing sector, and that the requests they send to Puertos Canarios are a priority, to avoid a slowdown in their activity.
