The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, recalled at the beginning of the extraordinary plenary session held this Thursday and after the PSOE left the plenary session alleging that "they had only been given a day and a half to submit amendments"; in 2019 and under the presidency of Dolores Corujo, they only gave the opposition one day to submit amendments to the budget.

“They have been making headlines and alarmist statements in the media for days because this Government has given the opposition three days to present amendments; and now, not only have they been incapable of doing their opposition work, but they forget that it was they who reduced the amendment period to the maximum,” assured the president.

The president of the Cabildo also denounces that, after the abandonment of the plenary session by the PSOE, "another opportunity has been lost to debate the issues that concern the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as to contribute with their proposals to the possible improvement of the most important tool of the Corporation, which is the budget."

Furthermore, they point out that "it was not the only year in which the Government of Dolores Corujo cut the days to present them, since in the year 2020 it gave four business days and in 2021 it also granted three days to the opposition for this procedure".

The vice-president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and head of the Treasury and Contracting department, María Jesús Tovar, also regrets "the lack of responsibility of the PSOE, which has been incapable of presenting amendments to the budget for the 2026 fiscal year while the other two opposition political forces, VOX and NC, have done so".

In this regard, Tovar demands "greater rigor and professionalism" from the main opposition group. "They were very quick to claim that, in their opinion, the time to submit amendments was too short. If they had dedicated that time to analyzing the budget and submitting amendments to what they consider a bad budget, they could have been debated in the next plenary session," adds the vice president.

However, it should be noted that "while the seven present councilors from the PSOE left the plenary hall, both the VOX councilor and the one from Nueva Canarias did remain during the session and presented their amendments".

Likewise, as established in the plenary regulations, the seven PSOE councilors who attended the plenary session are entitled to receive the attendance fee for the extraordinary plenary session, which amounts to 400 euros, since the session had been declared open.
