The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, received the Minister of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, this Thursday on her first official visit to the island to address the priorities for action for Lanzarote in the area of culture, heritage and innovation and research projects.
During the meeting, both authorities agreed on the joint commitment to work closely to promote cultural development, heritage preservation and innovation in Lanzarote.
President Oswaldo Betancort expressed his satisfaction for the Minister's visit and highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Ministry led by Migdalia Machín in fundamental areas such as culture, science and innovation. "Lanzarote is a place rich in history and culture, and we are both committed to preserving our heritage and promoting creativity and innovation in Lanzarote society," said Betancort.
For her part, Minister Migdalia Machín stressed that "Lanzarote and La Graciosa will occupy a place with their own name in this legislature and today we have laid the foundations for issues that are a priority for the Canarian Government and the Island Council. Lanzarote not only has a rich historical heritage, but it is essential to promote, conserve and strengthen the Canarian identity." The head of the Canarian Executive in matters of Science and Innovation and Culture also highlighted the importance of "focusing on innovation projects that have an impact on the island's business fabric and on all the people of Lanzarote."
Accompanying Minister Migdalia Machín, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Cultural Heritage, Horacio Umpiérrez, the General Director of Culture and Cultural Heritage, Miguel Ángel Clavijo, and the General Director of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries, Cristóbal de la Rosa, as well as the Director of R&D+i of the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC), Gonzalo Piernavieja, have traveled to the island of Lanzarote.
The day, led by the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, and the Minister of Science and Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, included "a tight schedule" of work where several meetings were held, in which the Councilor for Culture and Territorial Policy of the Cabildo, Jesús Machín, also participated; the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ascensión Toledo; councilors from both areas of various municipalities of the Island, as well as technicians from the first island institution, together with the delegation from the Government of the Canary Islands.
Visit to Zonzamas, a benchmark archaeological site
The meeting culminated with a visit to the Zonzamas site, whose promotion of the Archaeological Park of the same name, together with the updating of the Interpretation Center project, is one of the central objectives of the government's action, both by the Cabildo and by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and Culture of the Canarian Executive.
For Oswaldo Betancort and Migdalia Machín, the purpose is for it to be configured as a benchmark center for public visits, integrated into the natural and territorial environment, which facilitates its understanding and enjoyment in compatibility with the preservation of its cultural values, includes the didactic and tourist impact and has the added value of permanently locating a space for researchers.
