The Cabidos Hall of the Parliament of the Canary Islands hosted this Monday the last commission on Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the year, in which the socialist deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Marcos Bergaz, asked the Canarian minister Pablo Rodríguez (CC) about the actions to **improve the Port of Caleta del Sebo in La Graciosa.**
"As 2025 is about to end, so far, many announcements, some bad luck, and few realities." These were the words with which the deputy and municipal spokesperson in Teguise began his speech when addressing the pending and promised investments "at the gateway to the eighth island."
A port facility that has experienced an exponential increase in demand in recent years, going from 286,292 passengers on regular routes and excursions in 2014 to 590,159 in 2024, an increase of more than 100% in a decade. “But it also constitutes a fundamental space for citizen activity and gathering, the great square of La Graciosa,” noted Marcos Bergaz.
"The need to improve this port facility motivated – Bergaz recalled – the tender, at the end of 2022 by the department headed by the socialist Sebastián Franquis, for the drafting of the beautification and land services improvement project for the Port of La Graciosa, awarded to the UTE ‘Caleta de Sebo’, for 157,000 euros in July 2023.""However, to date, no improvement action has materialized, except for three **attempts to award the renovation of the port square esplanade**, which is in very poor condition - Bergaz indicated - and without success, as the tender for the works was declared void twice due to a lack of interested companies in its execution," the deputy pointed out."The first in July 2025, for an amount of 883,197 euros and declared void; the second, in September, for 988,576 euros, with the same outcome; and the last one launched at the end of November, let's see if luck changes on the third try," the socialist deputy pointed out."That's why I tell you that, for now, many announcements, some bad luck, and few realities when we talk about qualifying a Port, the one in Caleta del Sebo, which demands investments more in qualitative than quantitative terms, more in terms of comfort, safety, beautification, landscape integration, than capacity."

In his response, councilor Pablo Rodríguez detailed the planned actions that he now expects can be undertaken next year. "In addition to the energy improvement through the installation of self-consumption photovoltaic panels for more than 200,000 euros, I can tell you that the project for the beautification and improvement of land services has an estimated investment of 13 million euros and has three phases.""The first, a plaza and boatyard, with a total budget of 1.6 million, the plaza is precisely the one we have been trying to tender since the middle of last year with not much success; hopefully, this question will serve to get it awarded," stated Rodríguez, referring to the initiative of deputy Marcos Bergaz. "The second, an improvement to the jetties, a total overhaul, with a budget of 5.7 million, and a third phase which is the breakwater and counter-breakwater with 5.6 million; it is evident that each phase has its difficulty."Regarding the second and third phase, he advanced that, "after several requests, the deadline for drafting the project has been extended until December 31 of next year, it is not only the drafting but also the environmental processing."Regarding this, he specified that "the project is currently under supervision for its technical approval, to subsequently process the simplified environmental impact assessment, then proceed to the application for the assignment of public maritime-terrestrial domain assets, and finally the project's approval and its tender," concluded councilor Rodríguez
