The Councilor for Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, Maite Corujo, visited this Monday morning the minors who are at the Maneje Day Center, whose management service, which was put out to tender last March, has already been awarded to the SAMU Foundation and will offer a series of improvements that will reinforce the quality of the socio-educational project and the care received by children, boys, girls, adolescents and their families.
The new contract, with a duration of three years and an amount of 674,135.64 euros, represents a comprehensive renewal and improvement of the service. Among its main innovations is the incorporation of new professional profiles, with the presence for the first time of a psychologist and a social worker, in addition to the Social Education professional, thus reinforcing the multidisciplinary nature of the intervention.
Likewise, the new service includes transportation to facilitate the entry of minors to the center both during the school year and during non-school periods, a measure that will improve accessibility to the resource and facilitate family reconciliation.
Another important improvement is the increase in the number of places, which will now be 35, expanding the care capacity of the municipal resource and allowing a greater number of minors who need this support to be attended to.
The contract also includes an extension of one hour of the schedule during the school period, increasing the time of care and support for minors and offering greater support to families.
A single contract for management and transport
One of the innovations of the new model is that the management of the Day Center and the transport service are integrated into a single lot, which will allow for coordinated management of both services and greater coherence in the care provided to minors.
The Maneje Day Center is aimed at minors between 3 and 16 years of age in vulnerable situations and their families, and develops a socio-educational intervention program aimed at preventing risk situations, educational reinforcement, personal and social development, and family support.
The intervention includes school support, socio-educational activities, emotional care and support, promotion of healthy habits, and educational leisure activities, creating a safe space where minors can learn, interact, and develop personal and social skills.
The new professional team will also allow for reinforced intervention from a comprehensive perspective, incorporating psychological and social care into the educational work already being carried out at the center.
The deputy mayor and head of Procurement, Echedey Eugenio, has highlighted that "when a contract is designed with people's real needs in mind, the result must necessarily be a better public service."
"This new contract represents a qualitative leap for the Maneje Day Center: we have more places, more professionals, transportation, extended hours, and a management model that integrates all these services," he stated.
For her part, the councilor for Social Welfare, Maite Corujo, has emphasized that "the Day Center is much more than a place where minors spend a few hours. It is a resource for support, prevention, and assistance to families, and that is why it was essential for the new contract to respond to the needs we have been identifying on a daily basis."
Corujo particularly highlights the incorporation of new professional profiles. "Having a psychologist and a social worker, alongside the educator, allows us to reinforce comprehensive care and address the different needs of each minor from a much more complete perspective," she affirms.
The councilor adds that "we are also taking an important step by increasing the places to 35, extending school hours, and implementing transportation for both school and non-school periods. These are concrete improvements that have a direct impact on minors and their families."
"We want every boy and girl who comes to the Day Center to find a safe, educational, and supportive space, but also for families to feel that they have a public resource by their side that supports them," Corujo concludes.
A resource for supporting minors and their families
The Maneje Minors Day Center constitutes a specialized resource within the public Social Welfare system of Arrecife to assist minors and families who may be in situations of psychosocial vulnerability.
Its purpose is to offer comprehensive care adapted to the circumstances of each minor and their family environment, promoting their protection, personal development, and well-being, while working on the prevention of risk situations and reinforcing family capacities.
The awarded entity will be responsible for the management and operation of the service, guaranteeing the physical and emotional safety of the minors, adequate and healthy nutrition, socio-educational care, training and leisure activities, and the development of an intervention adapted to the needs of the users.
