The mayoress of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, received this Monday the governor of the Rotarians, Manuel Ángel Menéndez, the highest authority of the 'Rotary Club' at the national level, who came to the Consistory accompanied by the president in Lanzarote, Rita Martín, and by the representative of Rotary Club Costa Teguise, Pedro Botella.

The protocol visit also served to inform the mayoress Astrid Pérez of the new project of 'Rotary Club Lanzarote' for 'Women's Empowerment', which will have the collaboration of the Arrecife City Council through the Municipal Equality Area.

After the meeting, the representatives of Rotary Club expressed 'the good harmony' that exists with the Arrecife City Council, and with its mayoress, when collaborating in solidarity initiatives 'that they promote and that have always been well received by the municipal corporation'.

Rotary Club is a philanthropic association with more than 32,000 rotary clubs distributed throughout the world, made up of more than 1,300,000 members, who promote solidarity initiatives. In Lanzarote, the conejeros rotarians, since their foundation in 1991, emphasize that they have promoted 'solidarity campaigns in favor of social groups such as Afa, Afol, Calor y Café, Cáritas, Adislan, Afacoda or El Cribo, among other non-profit organizations'.

Rotary Club Lanzarote also annually awards the 'Conejero of the Year' award, a distinction that rewards and recognizes the contribution of outstanding personalities of the Island, or entities, in the economic, social or cultural development of our society. The rotarians of Lanzarote, chaired by Rita Martín, donated, after the critical economic situation generated by the pandemic, 'a ton of food to help needy families in Arrecife and other municipalities on the island'.
