"The playgrounds of the capital are far from being clean, safe and accessible spaces for the little ones". This was denounced by the PP candidate for Mayor of the capital, Ástrid Pérez, who believes that "the children's recreation areas have been the great forgotten of the municipal government during these four years in which practically nothing has been advanced and much has been regressed".

"The quality of a city is also measured by the quality of its parks and green areas, and Arrecife today cannot boast of either," said Pérez, who claims to have supervised "a good part" of the playgrounds and considers it "unacceptable" that "in the 21st century, in a city of more than 60,000 inhabitants, these facilities are not fully accessible to all, as they do not even include special equipment so that boys and girls with mobility problems can normally enjoy these spaces, most of which also lack shade areas".

In this regard, Pérez has announced that one of the actions of her government will be to "make Arrecife a city for children, with spaces where they can unleash their energy and vitality without parents being concerned about issues as basic as cleanliness and safety". "Wherever there is a playground, it must be modernised and adapted, and in areas where they do not exist, we are going to create them. Playing is an essential part of the development of the little ones and based on that principle they must be conceived and maintained," she said.

Being at the forefront of children's enclosures

The PP candidate for Mayor of Arrecife believes that "there are large recreation areas such as the Maneje park or the theme park that should be rethought as sports, educational and inclusive play spaces for children with all types of abilities". "In the era we are in, and as the capital of the island, we must also be at the forefront of children's enclosures and include interactive and sensory games that stimulate the little ones and allow them to develop their motor skills," she said.

"We want and propose that parks be living spaces, places where children interact, learn and have fun. Small paradises for our children within the city," concluded Ástrid Pérez.
