The Popular Party has expressed its rejection of the statements made by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote at the past FITUR tourism fair in which she pointed out the convenience of declaring the island a “touristically saturated zone”. For the popular party, "this type of statements, made in addition in one of the most outstanding events in the sector worldwide, only serve to generate an absolutely unnecessary international alarm.”
According to the island president of the PP, Astrid Pérez, launching a message of this caliber “is counterproductive for the image of the island abroad by presenting Lanzarote as a massified destination when it really is not"

Pérez points out that “if the offer of accommodation places in Lanzarote is around 71,000 according to information from Promotur, that is the limit in which to move and what must be done is not to increase it further and offer more quality so that the tourist spends more at the destination”. She also emphasizes that the average occupancy data provided by ISTAC last year was around 74%, so “it cannot be limited further without our economy, which depends one hundred percent on tourism, being affected. That is the reality.”
In her opinion, “what the president of the Cabildo has to do is worry about what is happening with the beds that are being offered but are not officialized” and this is precisely what she has not talked about until now.
The popular party estimates that, "in the current fragile economic context, great care must be taken when making statements such as those of Dolores Corujo due to the negative impact they may have on the image of Lanzarote as a tourist destination.” Astrid Pérez insists that the best thing the Cabildo government can do at this time is to expedite the revision of the PIOL and invest in improving infrastructure and public services, which is ultimately what contributes to building a quality destination.
