The Canarian Association of Vacation Rentals ASCAV has condemned in a press release the attacks with stones and threats on social media against the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León.
They highlight that "they can understand and even share the distress, desperation, fear, and indignation suffered by tens of thousands of Canary families and residents due to the recently approved Law on Sustainable Regulation of Tourist Use of Housing, but in no case do they justify violence and show their absolute repulsion".
"Having reached the peak of differences with the Government, ASCAV, as the sole association representing the sector in the Canary Islands, once again extends a hand to the highest representative of the Canary Islands Government, Mr. Fernando Clavijo, so that a path of understanding, mediation, negotiation, and consensus can be opened to consolidate the vacation homes of tens of thousands of Canary families and residents who own vacation homes, since the Law is now only awaiting publication in the official bulletin of the Canary Islands," they continue.
From ASCAV they assure that "the intention has always been to defend that Tourism in the Canary Islands belongs to Everyone and that Canary families and residents also have the right to participate in the Tourism business. The association also aims to protect and safeguard the investment of many intermediary entrepreneurs and managers of said vacation homes and the direct and indirect jobs it generates".
ASCAV understands that "the time has come to be received for the first time by the President of the Canary Islands Government and hopes that, finally, an agreement can be reached to end a debate that has been deadlocked for over two years."
