Bringing painting closer to the youngest is part of an initiative promoted in February by the Tías City Council through its Department of Culture and Youth, directed by Pepa González. After the placement in the Tías Youth Space of reproductions by Goya, Manet and Chagall, this month it's the turn of Hokusai, von Werner and Boilly.
Under the Wave off Kanagawa, painted by Katsushika Hokusai in 1830, In the Barracks of the Troops outside Paris, by Anton von Werner, 1894 and The Entrance to the Théâtre de l'Ambigu-Comique before a Free Performance, 1819, by Louis L. Boilly are the three reproductions that can be enjoyed in the Espacio Joven, located in El Pavón square.
The three previous reproductions, which were exhibited in that same space during the month of February, have been donated to IES Tías for their exhibition in the center and will later be hung on the walls of IES Puerto del Carmen. Next month there will be three other new reproductions of international artistic creations.
The initiative was inaugurated in February by the mayor, José Juan Cruz, the first deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, the councilor for Youth and Culture, Pepa González, and the coordinator of the Adsis Canarias Foundation, Leticia Curbelo, managing entity.
Pepa González declares that “we seek to awaken the curiosity of young people for art and convert everyday spaces like the Youth Space into places where culture can also be learned and enjoyed”.
As he/she explains, the monthly rotation of reproductions and their subsequent transfer to the municipality's high schools allows that "more and more students have the opportunity to encounter great works of art history in their daily lives, fostering creativity, reflection, and interest in culture from early ages."
