The Arrecife City Council has taken a crucial step in the process of establishing the Canary Islands Autonomous Police in the capital of Lanzarote with the signing, by the Councilor for Urban Planning and Technical Office, Maciot Cabrera, of the decree authorizing the segregation of a plot located on Avenida Vargas, former headquarters of the Local Police.

The plot in question is part of the grouping of several registered properties whose total area has housed, throughout its history, various municipal facilities, including the old Municipal Slaughterhouse and Fish Market.

According to the report issued by the Technical Office of the City Council, the segregation complies with all the requirements established in the Arrecife Planning Plan in force, and the future island police station of the General Corps of the Canary Police will be located in the segregated space, an area of 590.00 m2.

As Maciot Cabrera highlights, "this is a significant step in our commitment to bring the Autonomous Police to Arrecife, which, as the third capital of the Canary Islands, deserves special attention in terms of security. The segregation of this plot brings us closer to the realization of this important project for the security and development of our city."

With the signing of this decree, only one last administrative step remains: the formal transfer of the property to the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. Once this procedure is completed, Arrecife will be ready to welcome the Autonomous Police, thus reinforcing security on the island.

As will be recalled, last October the Minister of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Nieves Lady Barreto, met with the Deputy Mayor of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, who those days was assuming the functions of accidental mayor, and the head of the Technical Office, Maciot Cabrera, to close the agreement for the transfer of the facilities.

Barreto visited the building together with the municipal representatives, accompanied also by the Deputy Minister of Justice and Security, Cesáreo Rodríguez, and the General Director of Security, David del Pino.
