The collaboration between the Arrecife City Council's Department of Education, headed by Abigail González, and the Department of Employment, led by Deputy Mayor Echedey Eugenio, has significantly strengthened the maintenance and improvement work in the capital's public schools during the first weeks of the year.
The reinforcement of maintenance work in schools has been possible thanks to the "Arrecife Activa 2025" project, an initiative of the Arrecife City Council, co-financed by the Canary Islands Employment Service, which combines the improvement of public services with the generation of employment and training opportunities. This has made it possible to assign a maintenance crew to the educational centers in the capital, which has carried out more than a hundred interventions in different educational centers, responding to accumulated needs and improving the conditions of use of school facilities
The work carried out has included general maintenance, plumbing, sanitation, lighting, space adaptation, and minor repairs, with interventions in practically all the schools in the municipality. These include repairs to sanitation networks, drain fixes, improvements to electrical and lighting systems, as well as carpentry, locksmithing, and common area conditioning work
In parallel, and outside the scope of the employment program, the Arrecife City Council has reinforced these tasks through subcontracted companies, which have carried out specialized work on **cleaning sewage and stormwater pipes**, plumbing repairs, aluminum maintenance and locksmithing, as well as actions related to fire protection systems and extinguishers, extending these tasks to almost all educational centersThe Councilor for Education, Abigail González, has highlighted that "coordination between areas is being key to advancing in the real improvement of schools, combining immediate actions with medium-term planning that will allow us to make a qualitative leap in educational infrastructure." In this regard, she emphasizes that "the objective is to guarantee safer, more functional centers that are adequate for students and teaching staff."For his part, the deputy mayor and head of the Employment Area, Echedey Eugenio, has positively assessed "the use of employment programs to address real needs of the municipality, generating training and work opportunities while improving the condition of public services".In this line of planning, the Arrecife City Council announces that the tender documents have already been activated for the **start of new structural works in schools**, focusing especially on paving and roofing lots, with the aim of improving schoolyards and resolving problems with the roofs of several centers
Likewise, work is being done on the improvement of courtyard pavements, replacing deteriorated surfaces with more suitable and safe materials for the daily use of students, as well as on the renovation of roofs and the continuation of sanitation works in those centers that require it.
The capital's head of Education insists that these actions are part of a global strategy to improve public schools in Arrecife, based on coordination between departments, technical planning, and the optimization of available resources.
