The Department of Beaches of the Arrecife City Council has reopened the El Reducto beach since the morning of this Friday, August 7, with the latest analyses from Public Health reflecting good water quality for bathing.
The Councilor for Beaches, Davinia Déniz, also responsible for the Environment Department, has stressed that the Arrecife City Council, like all local administrations in Spain with a beach coastline, follows the established protocols when wastewater appears and adopts preventive measures, as was decreed for this beach.
The latest analyses carried out by the Lanzarote Health Department, as well as those commissioned by the City Council and the Water Consortium, at the municipal request, have reflected the good quality of the waters for bathing and the disappearance of the source that appeared at the end of July in an area near this beach, at a place called Punta del Camello, where there is an overflow from the Lanzarote Water Consortium's network. The blue and green flags are flying again, as of this Friday, on the main urban beach of the capital of Lanzarote.
The Department of Beaches has sent the report on the actions taken by the Lanzarote Water Consortium, owner of the island's sanitation network, to the Canary Islands Health Service, regarding this area of the city where different pumping stations, sewage network, overflow, and booster pumps are located near the central building of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
Summer activities promoted by different departments of the City Council on this beach continue according to established schedules and times. In addition, different sports and entertainment events will be held on this beach as part of the program for the San Ginés patron saint festivities.
The City Council attributed as a hypothesis that the occasional presence of this wastewater in the area near the beach could have been a collateral effect of the rupture of the sanitation network's booster pipe of the Water Consortium in Argana Alta, through which the wastewater from Playa Honda (San Bartolomé) and the lower area of Arrecife is pumped to the WWTP (Wastewater Treatment Plant) in Montaña Mina (upper area of Argana Alta).
