Arrecife received more than 505,000 cruise passengers in 2023

Arrecife received "more than 505,000 cruise passengers in 2023", with an increase of 49%, so it continues to show strength in the recovery of the arrival of tourist passengers. The official statistics of the Port Authority reflect that the capital of Lanzarote exceeded the half million passenger mark on cruises during 2023.

In the accumulated of last year, "505,926 passengers" arrived, a figure that provides an increase of 48.60% compared to 2022. According to the AP data, the capital of Lanzarote has achieved a "similar figure" of visitors in ocean liners to that registered in 2019, and "much higher" than that of 2018.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, declared this Thursday that these figures reveal that Arrecife has a "great economic strength" in the sectors linked to the port, to the point that it contributes 33% of the volume of business linked to the cruise activity of all the state port facilities integrated in the Ports of Las Palmas.

According to official data, the three assigned ports of the AP of Las Palmas (Arrecife, Puerto del Rosario and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) received a total of 1,512,295 cruise passengers during 2023, of which Arrecife contributed 505,926. The sum of the passengers from Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) and Arrecife (Lanzarote) contribute 66% of the volume of business of the characteristic activity in Ports of Las Palmas.

In comparative data, the increase in the port of Arrecife during 2023 amounted to 48.60%, while in the port of the capital of Gran Canaria it stood at 44.82%. The push of Arrecife contributes to the average of the ports of the AP of Las Palmas is a total of 46%.

In parallel, the increase in the ports of the western province of the Canary Islands closed at 45.57% in 2023, with Santa Cruz de Tenerife registering an arrival of 1,106,181 passengers in all of its ports.

The Government group of Arrecife, launched a 'Dynamization Plan' last autumn to support the commercial and hotel sector of the capital on the days of cruise arrivals. From the Department of Tourism and Commerce, directed by the councilor Eli Merino, activities are carried out in the open commercial area of the capital of Lanzarote on the days of cruise arrivals, and every weekend.

In recent months, new businesses have opened in the open commercial area of Arrecife that have among their target audience those who visit the city when taking a tourist cruise. Among these businesses are fashion firms and gourmet products, among others.
