The Arrecife City Council held this Friday morning the symbolic act of raising the rainbow flag on the facade of the consistorial building, as a sign of support and commitment to the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community and in commemoration of the International Pride Day, which is celebrated every June 28.

The event, which was attended by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio, and councilors from the government group and the opposition, as well as representatives of the LGTBI+ community, is part of the program organized by the Departments of Social Welfare and Equality, led by Maite Corujo; Citizen Participation, under the responsibility of Cathaysa Suárez; and Culture, headed by Abigail González, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

This program kicked off on the afternoon of Thursday, June 26, with the awards ceremony of the 1st Arrecife Proud Poetry Contest and the premiere of the film Miss Carbón.

The celebrations continue tonight in La Recova with the presentation of the Arrecife Orgullosa awards, starting at 8:30 p.m. This first edition recognizes the work of people, entities, companies, and associations that work for the visibility, defense, and respect of the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community on the island.

Among the award winners are Dr. José F. Likewise, the associations COGAL, LanzaEntiende, Lánzate, and Chrysallis will be recognized for their constant work in favor of equality, identity, and dignity of LGTBIQ+ people in Lanzarote.

After the awards ceremony, the stage of La Recova will host the show Pink Cabaret, an evening of variety led by the renowned drag queen, actress, and singer Sharonne, which will begin at 9:00 p.m.

The program will continue on Saturday the 28th with a day full of activities. From 12:00 p.m., El Almacén will open its doors to associations for a community meeting.
