The opening of the island of Lanzarote's first public terrace filled the Theme Park with hundreds of families. The opening this Thursday of this new municipal space for family leisure use and enjoyment was a great success where the youngest members of the families were the protagonists.
The recovery of the concession, after "years of neglect after being lost in 2018 with the PSOE in the mayor's office of Arrecife" according to the Municipal Government, has now made it possible to relaunch this enclave for family leisure, on what were lands reclaimed from the sea.
The mayor Yonathan de León, present this Thursday at the opening ceremony of this new terrace, values that the families from Lanzarote congratulate the Arrecife City Council for the opening of this public space next to the renovated playground. "Hundreds of families have conveyed this to me personally during this opening," commented the capital's mayor.
The Department of Works, under the direct management of Mayor Yonathan de León, has allocated several municipal crews to recover, adapt, and clean up the current facilities of the theme park, which had been neglected for years. The first action focused on the comprehensive rehabilitation of the public restrooms, which have been open for public use since this Thursday in an enclave a few steps from the Bus Interchange.
Along with the renovation of the restrooms, which includes one adapted for people with reduced mobility, the playground has also been renovated, adapted with attractions for children in wheelchairs, and the improvement and beautification of the accesses to the Theme Park square where this public terrace has been installed with tropical umbrellas, tables (created with artisanal barrels), and stools.
Yonathan de León has highlighted that the Department of Works will continue in this public space during these summer and next autumn weeks to clean up all areas of the park. The mayor has stressed that the City Council has already approved a major project to create a large green lung in this enclave with new sports facilities, an outdoor cinema, an outdoor GYM, a children's play area, shaded areas and family leisure, and a large dog park. Municipal planning estimates that the tender for this major project, approved by the Coastal Authority, will be put out to tender in 2027.
Yonathan de León has emphasized that the recovery of public spaces, the creation of ecobulevards, the rehabilitation of the Plaza de Las Palmas, the recovery of La Pescadería and La Recova, the modernization of neighborhoods, and the transformation and modernization of the city's urban image are, along with his Government team, "among the priorities" - among others - that he assumed when he was proclaimed mayor of Arrecife in July 2023.
Dynamization of the public terrace by the Department of Commerce and Tourism
The Arrecife Theme Park, since this Thursday with its successful premiere with hundreds of families, has become a new meeting point to enjoy summer afternoons in the capital. Thus, to relaunch this space, the Department of Commerce and Tourism, led by Eli Merino, has launched family leisure days with ‘Tardeos Arrecife’, a proposal that combines live music, DJ sets, family leisure, and gastronomy between 6:30 PM and 11:30 PM.
The initiative, where it has a small stage for performances, is located in the Plaza del Parque Temático, on the municipal outdoor terrace with gastronomic offerings, fostering synergies in this space along the coast as a meeting place for families and the public of all ages. This Thursday, as part of the dynamization, Toti Sanz, Malpeis, Tana y Cía, Kalima, and Jaleo performed, which is completed each day with different DJ sets.
The councilor Eli Merino has highlighted the great success achieved on this first day, "where the dynamization by her Department follows the line established during this term to strengthen the sectors of leisure, commerce, tourism, hospitality, and catering in the city of Arrecife". By enabling families to enjoy their leisure time and strolls in Arrecife, we achieve that establishments dedicated to these sectors of the local economy continue to grow, generating economy and maintaining or creating new jobs.
