The capital of Lanzarote is already showing its Christmas atmosphere and decorations, which for the first time are present in all urban centers of Arrecife, as announced by Mayor Yonathan de León, who had committed to this Christmas lighting being visible in every urban area of this municipality, with more than 72,000 residents.

The official lighting ceremony, which took place this weekend, was expressly moved forward by the Arrecife City Council to the first weekend of Advent due to the Municipal Government, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, having numerous events scheduled. Among these was the unveiling of the renovated Plaza de Las Palmas, next to the church of San Ginés, a very Christmassy spot at the end of this month, following the completion of the rehabilitation works on this historic Arrecife site. According to the mayor, the work is scheduled for reception on November 28.

The city's mayor, and directly responsible for the Public Works Department, to which the Municipal Lighting Service is attached, presided over the lighting ceremony on Friday night in La Plazuela, where he was accompanied by the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio, the councilor for Events and Ceremonies, Óscar López, and the councilor for Commerce and Tourism, and PP spokesperson, Eli Merino

After a fun and lively parade, jointly organized by the Departments of Acts and Events, and Commerce and Tourism, which toured the entire Open Commercial Zone of La Calle Real, from Las Cuatro Esquinas to La Plazuela, the mayor Yonathan de León, upon arriving at this spot that had been packed with people hours earlier, asked two little girls to come up on stage and participate in the Christmas lighting.

A show with live performances to prepare for the arrival of Christmas

Shortly after 7:15 p.m., the parade began, with **nearly 150 people participating** who performed and exhibited throughout Calle Real, which, for the first time, was packed with people to witness this parade and enjoy the lighting, which for these 2025 Christmas holidays features **nearly 6,000 decorative figures and LED icicles**.

The lighting ceremony featured a large 25-meter tree, similar in height to the bell tower of the Church of San Ginés, located in José Ramírez Cerdá Park, next to the historic Music Kiosk.

The mayor, in his address to the public in attendance, highlighted that throughout 2025, Christmas lights have been deployed across all urban centers that make up the municipality of Arrecife: Argana Alta, Argana Baja, Maneje, Tinasoria, Altavista, Titerroy, San Francisco Javier, Las Salinas, La Destila, La Vega, Los Alonso, Valterra, El Lomo, Lloret, La Concha, El Cable, and the access roads to Los Diseminados, along with Argana Alta and Camino de Güime.

Since last September, the company awarded these installations began setting up the Christmas lights to arrive at this special day.

A parade welcomed Christmas to the rabbit capital

The Department of Commerce and Tourism, headed by councilwoman Eli Merino, and the Department of Acts and Events, headed by Óscar López, scheduled a parade show for Friday afternoon and evening, which wound through the Open Commercial Zone, to support local businesses that experience their highest commercial activity during these Christmas holidays.

The Arrecife City Council has planned for this central lighting event to be the prelude to the intense days that the Arrecife Open Commercial Zone will experience, as these Christmas dates represent one of its biggest sales seasons. The Arrecife Open Commercial Zone, which has been experiencing a resurgence in recent times, saw one of the largest public presences last Friday afternoon and evening, a sight not previously witnessed at a Christmas lighting ceremony.

Mayor Yonathan de León wishes that "the families of Arrecife live these Christmas holidays with joy and unity".
