The Arrecife City Council informs that, starting this next Saturday, March 29, the Traditional Farmers' Market in the square next to the church of San Ginés will have a new location in its vicinity. The start of the restoration works of Plaza de Las Palmas means that the City Council is looking for an alternative location, says the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León.
The capital's mayor, who has expressed his satisfaction with the start of these long-awaited works, "the result of the administrative unblocking achieved during this term", has reported that the awarded company has eight months to complete the works. The works include the restoration of the work designed by César Manrique when he intervened in this square, in the second half of the last century, and that has a double degree of heritage protection, due to the influence of the proximity to the monumental church dedicated to the invocation of San Ginés Obispo, and due to the artistic work of César Manrique.
The Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, Eli Merino, whose Department oversees this market, has met with the group that manages the stalls that sell products from the countryside every Saturday next to the church of San Ginés, in the capital of Lanzarote. In that meeting, the councilor has detailed that "when these works begin, the City Council will allocate, starting this next Saturday, the last of the month of March, and on a temporary basis, the semi-pedestrian area of Academia Street for the installation of these stalls selling agricultural products. The street is located between the church of San Ginés and La Recova".
Eli Merino has detailed that this location "will be temporary, and an alternative location will be sought in agreement with the owners of the stands in the market". The public spaces of the city, near the nerve center, are subject to necessary sectorial authorizations from Coasts or Heritage, for new locations during the development of the works.
