The Arrecife City Council has closed down the "largest drug den" that existed in Lanzarote until now. It is some basements of an unfinished building, located near the Argana Alta Football Field, which had become a focus of unsanitary conditions and insecurity for the residents of this neighborhood.

The agents of the Local Police of Arrecife had this place under surveillance and monitoring for months, with the support of undercover cars and plainclothes agents within the crusade that the mayor, Yonathan de León, has promoted to combat the 'drug dens' or places of 'hustling'.

A police deployment carried out on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning has managed to evict these basements, frequented by "violent drug addicts." The residents of the area alerted the Local Police of the continuous hustling that took place in this enclave.

After the police investigation carried out, the mayor of Arrecife ordered the agents to proceed with the closure and perimeter closure of this property. The Arrecife City Council has had the authorization of the property.

Yonathan de León has been supervising the deployment for the eviction of several people this Tuesday and Wednesday. Throughout this day, cleaning and waste removal work will continue, which generated bad odors. Nearly 30 personnel, including local police, Roads and Works workers, and cleaning staff, are working on these tasks so that the area regains security and normality.

Once the garbage has been removed, the workers of the Department of Works of the capital's City Council will proceed to fence and close the perimeter, which will prevent new occupations by drug addicts.

Yonathan de León recalled that "in Lanzarote there is a Therapeutic Community where families have public support to help the reintegration of drug addicts." Likewise, the mayor detailed, "the Arrecife City Council offers a Soup Kitchen and a Shelter so that people who are in this situation of drug addiction can have guaranteed daily food, and where they can wash and sleep."

The Arrecife City Council has been working in recent months on the closure of different 'drug dens' that were causing insecurity for the residents of those places who "have seen normality and tranquility restored with the interventions of the Local Police."
