The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Sports, has put into service the renovated sports facilities for Canary ball, bocce, and petanque located in the Las Salinas neighborhood, which have had an investment of approximately 800,000 euros.

This presentation of this important sports work took place on Wednesday afternoon, with the attendance of the mayor Yonathan de León, the councilwoman for Sports and spokesperson for the PP, Eli Merino, the president of the Insular Federation of Balls and Petanque of Lanzarote, Francisco González, and the directors and members of the ball and petanque clubs.

Yonathan de León has emphasized that "we continue to improve sports facilities in the neighborhoods, with a powerful investment plan, managing to transform these spaces into modern, accessible, and shaded places, one of the strategic priorities of this modernization, which will allow ball and petanque players to enjoy these facilities at any time of the year, and not be - as until now - subject to adverse weather conditions”.

For her part, the spokesperson for the PP and councilwoman for Sports, Eli Merino, has highlighted the importance of this intervention, one of the many that the City Council is currently undertaking in the neighborhoods of Arrecife, where the numerous fans and practitioners of this sport in Arrecife wished to have better facilities, now covered, on an island like Lanzarote where the sun is very present.

Comprehensive renovation of the space in the Las Salinas neighborhood

This work, which was awarded to the construction company Rustilanza, has consisted of the comprehensive renovation of all facilities including electricity, plumbing, and sanitation, renovating the restrooms, and improving the comfort of the rooms.

In addition, the headquarters of the Arrecife Ball and Petanque Club have been expanded, as the previous one had been demolished due to its deterioration, as well as the headquarters of the Insular Federation of Ball and Petanque, and the facilities of the Tropical Club, to which the headquarters of the Timanfaya Club will soon be added, as announced yesterday by Mayor Yonathan de León.

The modernization has allowed for the adaptation of public restrooms, a room for the fire pump (it is equipped with a fire prevention system), as well as a self-supporting roof creating shaded areas and protection from rain in the court area, so that one can play both ball games and pétanque in times of adverse weather conditions.

In addition to these described improvements, the execution of the work has allowed for the renovation of the entire playing court incorporating specific and approved material for the development of the Canarian ball game, bocce, and pétanque.

During the event, the president of the Insular Federation of Ball and Pétanque, Francisco González, and the presidents of the three ball clubs, congratulated the mayor Yonathan de León, for this work, which covers a long-standing deficiency, and encouraged other municipalities in Lanzarote and other islands of the Archipelago to follow the good example of Arrecife, with the construction of similar facilities, which include a covered area, for the practice of these sports deeply rooted among the senior population.

During the reopening of these facilities, highly applauded by the members of these sports clubs, the mayor Yonathan de León – who was accompanied at the event by a broad representation of the Municipal Government, announced that this entire area of Manolo Millares street, where the sports facilities are located, will undergo a significant change in its urban image with the second phase of the transformation of Manolo Millares street, between the roundabouts next to the old municipal cemetery, and the educational centers of IES Las Salinas and CEIP Antonio Zerolo, a project that the Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council will put out to tender this summer.
