Arrecife will premiere starting next September, with the arrival of autumn, new facilities in playgrounds intended for the creation of shade and to prevent children's exposure to the sun. The Municipal Government of Arrecife, led by mayor Yonathan de León, fulfills one of the demands of the families of Lanzarote and has awarded, through the Parks Department, led by popular councilor Roberto Herbón, the installation of structures to provide shade to nearly 30 playgrounds located in all neighborhoods of the city.
The award, with an investment close to one million euros, is materialized from the direct budgets of the Arrecife City Council. The awarded company already has these systems under construction, which will be transported by sea to Lanzarote in the coming weeks for installation. The Department of Playgrounds will supervise this work, which is scheduled to be completed before next autumn.
With this initiative, playgrounds throughout the city will be equipped with shaded areas by installing large structures over the play areas, where the little ones will be protected from inclement weather, and most importantly on an island with high sun exposure, protected from the sun during the leisure and play time of the children.
From the Arrecife City Council, as part of the modernization plans in the neighborhoods and the city center, the tender for these new facilities was called last December.
It is noteworthy that Lanzarote, and the Canary Islands archipelago as a whole, enjoys good climatic conditions throughout the year. Solar radiation - due to its geographical location and latitude, is very high and frequent in the Canary Islands. For this reason, the Arrecife City Council designed this plan to cover children's attractions with structures that provide shade. This new work complements the recently executed one where all the playgrounds in Arrecife have been renovated and modernized, with nearly thirty play areas distributed in different areas of the capital of Lanzarote.
An investment close to three million euros
Mayor Yonathan de León has detailed that "there are many works underway for the modernization of the neighborhoods, with actions on accessibility, renovation of asphalt pavement in nearly 150 streets, construction of new public facilities, renovation and expansion of sports facilities, and renovation of children's playgrounds, where all have premiered synthetic pavement, safer and more hygienic. And now the placement of shade structures in the children's areas is added, a demand from the Conejera families," emphasized the capital's mayor.
"The investment in all the children's playgrounds has been close to 3 million euros, combining the integral renovation of the park areas and this new work of installing shade zones. In recent months, all the neighborhoods of Arrecife have premiered these renovated children's playgrounds," highlights the Councilor of the Area, Roberto Herbón.
