The Arrecife City Council has approved this Monday its budgets for 2026, the highest in the city's history with 79 million euros, registering an increase of 5.77 percent with respect to 2025. For this budgetary year, the capital of Lanzarote has a budget of 78,676,929.35 euros compared to the 74,382,091 euros of the past year, 2025.
On the morning of this Monday, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, also directly responsible for the Budget Management Unit, presented to journalists, accompanied by the deputy mayor and councilor for Economy and Finance, Echedey Eugenio, all the details of this budget, which was approved in plenary after the press conference. The plenary approval had the votes of the Government group (PP and CC), the abstention of the mixed group, and the vote against the PSOE.
Yonathan de León stressed that “we demonstrate that the City Council has a thriving economic strength and with great investment capacity “which is already reflected in the report accompanying these budgets where, in addition to the more than 6.2 million euros in the investment item, we have announced that we will incorporate another 40 million euros from treasury surpluses to execute a powerful plan for the modernization of the neighborhoods during this 2026 and 2026. Never before, highlighted the mayor, “had so much been invested in the neighborhoods of Arrecife”.
Yonathan de León detailed that for the transformation of Argana there is an investment project of 6 million euros, along with the comprehensive rehabilitation works of José Ramírez Cerdá Park, and the construction of the 4 eco-boulevards of Pérez Galdós, León y Castillo, Triana and Manolo Millares streets (second phase).

This significant increase in 2026 is achieved by the rise in indirect revenues, which go up by 9.13, direct revenues go up by 6.22 %, fees by 5.61%, and current transfers, by 9.62 %. The report certifies that the policy of tax containment and low taxation towards citizens, self-employed individuals, and SMEs is maintained.
In the chapter on expenses and investment, it focuses on public works and services to continue with the modernization of Arrecife, renewing the urban transformation, urban, achieving the elimination of barriers to continue with the plans for us to be an accessible capital, uniting the improvement of municipal public transport, the significant increase in social action and support for people, strengthening the budget items for commerce and tourism ( driving sectors of the economic reactivation of the city of Arrecife, and new resources for the Areas of Health and Animal Welfare.
Likewise, progress continues in mobility and the improvement of public transport, started in the 2024 fiscal year, with the strengthening of social services, more actions in the areas of Culture, Youth. Seniors, Commerce, Tourism and Sports. With the increase in public spending, the necessary economic development of the city continues to be favored and promoted, through these sectors, where freelancers and SMEs are service providers.
The personnel expense reflects the salary increase agreed at state level, as well as the allocation for the creation of new positions that improve the internal organization of the City Council.
In the global chapter of culture the increase stands at 14 % %, in Health 13 %, in Sports, 7.26 %, in Social Services, an increase of 7.60, in Urban Waste, an increase of 11.28 %, in Commerce and Tourism, 68 %, plus future actions that will be launched with the incorporation of Treasury remnants.
In the past fiscal year of 2025, the municipal budget amounted to 74,382,091 euros, and for this fiscal year of 2026, we increased by 5.77 percent, to stand at 78,676,929.35 euros, the highest figure in this Municipal Corporation.
The mayor highlighted that, "without raising taxes, the City Council has investment capacity to continue transforming the city, as well as continuing to maintain the social policy of support for families, one of the pillars we have strengthened during this term".
For his part, the deputy mayor and city's head of Finance, Echedey Eugenio, has stated that "we have designed accounts that grow in revenue without the need to raise taxes, which demonstrates that good management can translate directly into more resources for the city," he said, highlighting that "we allocate more than 32 million euros to essential public services because we understand that cleanliness, security, urban maintenance, or mobility are the basis of our residents' quality of life."
At the same time, Eugenio assures, "we consolidate our social commitment with almost 7 million euros in policies aimed at the most vulnerable people, reinforcing direct aid, social programs, and support for groups that need it most."
Likewise, the councilor has emphasized that these budgets also look to the future, with investments in neighborhoods, public spaces, and infrastructures that will transform the city in the coming years.
Echedey Eugenio has also highlighted that "we continue to advance in one of our main mandate objectives: debt reduction, which already exceeds 8 million euros less. This allows us to have a healthier City Council with greater capacity to invest in the city."
