The Arrecife City Council has announced that the Fermina islet will open to the public on the last weekend of July, as agreed at the meeting held this Wednesday between the mayoress, Astrid Pérez, and the managing director of the Centres for Art, Culture and Tourism, Benjamín Perdomo.

According to the Consistory, both "agreed on the importance and immediacy with which the use and enjoyment of these long-awaited facilities by the people of Arrecife should be authorised".

“This is about returning part of its identity to the refuge city that Arrecife has historically been", the Mayoress stresses, vindicating "the importance of its bay, a permanent setting for the commercial, military, shipping and fishing life of the island, so restoring one of the most important spaces in the city is opening a new horizon of opportunities for our residents, it is providing Arrecife with an emblematic and attractive place that, if well exploited, can help us all”.

The mayoress recalled that “too much time has passed and been lost in the enjoyment of one of the most emblematic spaces of the capital's marina, designed by César Manrique and which is on its way to becoming another benchmark of the modern city we long for”.
